Project Management

One of our strengths at Worcester Black is our knowledge and experience of project management and implementation (including project management in a Prince2 environment.

Between us we’ve handled (among others):

  • Acquisition’s
  • MBO’s
  • Major IT and Operational migrations
  • Business Relocation
  • Inter-group product development projects
  • Despatch & Warehouse restructuring

We combine a wealth of weather beaten experience, diplomacy and, just occasionally, sheer bloody mindedness when it comes to ‘making it happen’ (on- time and on-budget).

Perhaps we can help you? If we can’t we bet we know someone who can.

Project Design

Once a project is mandated, Worcester Black can work with clients to help scope and design an overall project. We can support work to define:

  • A project brief
  • Help to define, or refine a business case
  • Assess Risk within the confines of a project, review previous lessons
  • Assist in ‘as is’ versus ‘go-to’ analysis
  • Support the development of Communications, Risk, Quality and Product Configuration strategies
  • Develop the plan, and stage plans

We can then assist clients in communicating the proposed benefits of a particular plan to a variety of stakeholders, including: staff, investors, customers, suppliers and other third-parties.

We can then work on to refine plans as a project progresses.

Project Management

Is ‘the planning, delegating, monitoring and control of all aspects of the project, and the motivation of those involved, to achieve the project objectives within the expected performance targets for time, cost quality, scope, benefits and risk’ (Prince2)

Who are we to argue?

We pride ourselves on our ability to manage projects, either stand-alone, or as part of a programme, and to provide skills, experience and advice aimed at ensuring appropriate outcomes for our clients.

We can work on an Interim Management basis, or one a third-party consulting basis, depending on clients brief.

We work with a variety of management tools, and have managed projects for large UK carriers, small PR firms and specialist printers.

Supply-Chain Management

At Worcester Black, we work with clients to help assess the effectiveness of the structure and management of their own particular supply-chain network.

This can typically involve us in review of the movement, and storage, of materials, work-in-process, stocks of finished goods, and the systems that support such movements, together with the monitoring and control of items from point of origin, through to dispatch and on to CRM review, post dispatch.

Much as with project management, Worcester Black works with clients in the design, planning and delivery of supply chain solutions to add true value, to improve the overall financial effectiveness of the demand / supply-chain and having implemeted the agreed soluiton will then monitor the effectiveness of the change and fine tune as appropriate.

Interim Management

The temporary provision of management resources and skills is generally seen as the short-term assignment of a proven and broadly experienced executive to manage a period of transition, crisis or change within a business. In such cases a permanent role may be unnecessary or, for a variety of reasons difficult to fill at short notice.

Additionally, there may be nobody internally who is suitable for, or available to take up, a particular role.

Many of us are experienced in Interim Management, having run a variety of interim projects that include:

  • Business Relocation, liaising with a variety of third-parties including Landlords, Solicitors, Banks, Utilities, ICT, removals, Local Authorities, customer and supplier liaison etc
  • Start-ups, and new offices, much as the above, together with staff recruitment and induction and systems set-ups
  • Management Cover, short-medium term cover (maternity, illness, post acquisition)

We can provide interim managers from a wide range of backgrounds with experience of interim project work.

We are not a ‘recruitment consultancy’, but Worcester Black can help to identify your recruitment needs and assist in the process of recruitment, helping you to:

  • Define the role and responsibilities,
  • Draft the person specification
  • Write and place the advertisement
  • Review applications
  • Conduct first stage interviews
  • Arrange for profiling and psychometric testing

We can also conduct searches and organise and run initial interviews, helping you to ensure that the people you eventually meet are ‘fit for purpose’ and are well briefed as what is required.
